School’s out, well, very nearly! The heat is on but that means a month of summer fun can be had at Emerald Resort & Casino with activities, events and entertainment galore for absolutely everyone in the family.
“We have more than a month of summer fun planned at the Resort,” says Emerald Resort & Casino’s Marketing Executive Tanuja Gangabishun. “From an outdoor movie night to beach sports at Aquadome, it’s all happening over this festive season.”
On 8 December, the Resort will be hosting their well-known outdoor movie night, especially for the kids this time, with the well-loved animated movie, Zootopia. Bring an outdoor chair or a picnic blanket, order a family sized picnic hamper, sit back and relax under a perfect, starry Vaal evening.
Aquadome is where everyone will want to be throughout December for great holiday sports action. Expect beach sport activities such as volleyball, touch rugby and beach soccer. There are great prizes up for grabs for the winners. Other games include hit the tin, hangman, tug of war, sack race and three legged race. It’s all happening from 16 December 2018 to 05 January 2019, 11h00 to 18h00 daily.
Kids need to be on the lookout for Father Christmas from 20 to 25 December. He’ll be at the Resort to take photos with kids and their families. For PlayStation enthusiasts, a mobile gaming unit will be available for free, packed full of PS4’s and the latest games, from 21 December 2018 to 5 January 2019, 10h00 to 18h00.
Since it is summer and it’s all about having a good time, Aquadome will be playing host to some amazing DJ’s these holidays. In the mood to dance? Get those dancing shoes on as DJ Rayz and DJ Pepe spin the decks!

The Vaal Explorer Awards recognises stakeholders who have worked hard in making their respective establishments a success, by attracting visitors and delivering service excellence while ensuring a memorable experience for patrons.
“This is the first SMME exhibition that we have hosted, providing a platform for entrepreneurs to interact with industry experts, buyers and executives in order to build stronger and more profitable business networks,” says Mark Hands, Emerald Resort & Casino’s Resort Director.The event provides delegates and local SMME’s that are operating businesses in and around the area with a local, innovative networking platform where they have a chance, especially one that offers the advantage, at presenting their business to bigger corporates, while establishing additional business trade amongst each other. It also presents an opening for them to understand current business trends and forces the shaping of the local SMME sector.
Some of the exhibitors included NDS Chef’s Academy, Bolle Technology, Tintswalo & Engineering, The Innovation Hub, ER Signs and Safety and Thenga Online Radio with important topics covered by Phorohlo Nkadimeng (SARS Compliance), Yandisa Hene from Innovation Marketing Consultant who spoke about ‘Smart marketing ideas for SME’s on a budget’, Dr Joe (Director VUT Southern Gauteng Science and Technology Park).“We would like to thank the sponsors Eskom, Arcelor Mittal, Seriti Coal, SEDA Small Enterprise Development Agency. “The conversation that we must have on both sides, namely with bigger corporates and SMME’s, is how we build real entrepreneurship and sustainable business in order to stimulate the economy around the Vaal Triangle area.
“Fans were spoilt for choice this weekend at Emerald Resort & Casino with two national stars in the form of Zonke and Vusi Nova both providing exceptional performances,” says Leolize Naidoo, Emerald Resort & Casino’s Events & Entertainment Manager.
Vusi Nova was ably supported by Bongani Radebe, the young, exceptionally talented and self-taught saxophonist. Ladies went weak at the knees when he started singing ‘Ndikuthandile’ while the gentlemen looked on in appreciation. In addition to this the fans were pleasantly surprised and delighted when 047_ZA and Bekezela joined Vusi Nova on stage.
“They will be back! Due to unmistakable popular demand we will be bringing these entertainers back in the near future,” concludes Leolize. “Who will be the first artist to perform here for a record breaking third time?
“It’s been nearly two years since Vusi Nova enthralled fans at Emerald Resort & Casino,” says Emerald Resort & Casino’s Marketing Executive Tanuja Gangabishun. “Due to popular demand, he’s back, and just like last time he’s going to leave our audience wanting more!”
“To kick off our CSI initiatives for 2018, our Emerald team members started out knitting scarves for the underprivileged in our winter project and on Mandela Day, we hosted orphans for a day out at Animal World. This initiative has continued into the Spring months with the team hosting pensioners to experience the Resort,” says Emerald Resort & Casino’s Marketing Executive Tanuja Gangabishun.
Some spoke about the good old days, others enjoyed the outdoors by demonstrating how fit they still are with a bit of aerobics while others delighted in the climate controlled and warm waters of Aquadome.
One such initiative is Emerald Resort & Casino’s annual Readathon Challenge which focuses on the importance of reading and education throughout Africa. The challenge was aimed at local schools in the Sedibeng area. Ten schools put their three best readers forward to compete in three categories, namely, Junior Primary, Senior Primary and Secondary with the top three winners of each category winning educational prizes.
Although there is still much to be done and plans are in motion for further refurbishment, the Resort itself has never looked better. Free fast Wi-Fi is available to guests within the hotel, Bush Lodges, casino, Emerald Arena, the River Resort reception area, Aquadome, Pins and all restaurants (High Stakes, Breeze and Sports Bar).The road leading to the property has also been re-surfaced, River Resort chalets are being upgraded and the main complex has undergone extensive renovation.
Experience Jurassic Park at Emerald Resort & Casino! The Dino Expo, featuring life-sized moving dinosaurs will be on display at the Resort on Saturday, 20 October and Sunday, 21 October 2018.
“It’s a mesmerising not-to-be-missed exhibition of realistic, life-sized, accurate to science animatronics dinosaurs that capture the imagination with their life-like demeanour and movement,” concludes Tanuja.
Launching in September and culminating with the final draw on the 5th December, Joyride is super easy to enter. “The mechanics are really simple. For every 50 points earned on slots or tables, customers receive one draw ticket,” explains Tanuja Gangabishun, Marketing Executive at Emerald Resort & Casino.
“As our final casino promotion for 2018 we’re looking forward to handing out as many prizes as possible! We know that this one is going to be extremely popular amongst our guests and we can’t wait to get started,” she says.
Emerald Resort & Casino’s Chef Hendry elaborates, “The idea behind launching a new menu was a desire for us to differentiate our restaurant offering, in particular High Stakes from the local options in the Vaal market while also appealing to a more international market. I’ve presented the food a little differently on the plate, incorporating a bit of a twist on traditional plating.”
